Model AP-2 Description The Model AP2400 Access PointThe AP-2 Access Point provides wireless connectivity to a wired Ethernet LAN at 2Mbps. The AP-2 can be used at a Wireless Router to provide Internet Access to subscribers. This exciting capability offers T1like data rate access to the Internet with no telephone company line charges! Distances of over 30 miles (50 km) are possible when the AP-2 is used with the YDI AMP2440 pole mounted amplifier and the PT2424 grid dish antennas! The AP-2 can also be configured as a Wireless Ethernet bridge linking two wired LANs together. Operation When it is operating normally, the AP-2 is invisible to most users. Even though the user is operating wirelessly, they will use the their laptop or PC in exactly the same way as they were if attached directly to the Ethernet using a cable. The wireless LAN system offers the user all the same functions as an Ethernet LAN. Popular features such as server disk drive mapping, network neighborhood and Internet access all work in the same way as for an Ethernet network. There is usually no special action required by the user. Unlike a modem (where the user needs to connect the phone jack and initiate dialing), wireless connection to the Internet or a LAN is automatic to users in radio range. Management The AP-2 has a number of special features and system settings that can be adjusted. These features can be activated or the settings changed through one of the available management interfaces. The management interfaces allow the system administrator to communicate directly with the AP-2 over the LAN. Features | License free operation on 2.4 GHz. Includes a WL2400-PCM Wireless LAN card.
